Greater Portland Metro Area

Special Statement  Statement as of 9:43 am PDT on July 28, 2014

... Very warm weather this week in southwest Washington and
northwest Oregon...

A very warm week is on tap across the interior of southwest
Washington and northwest Oregon. The warmest temperatures will be
in the inland valleys such as the Willamette Valley... the
Columbia River gorge... the Interstate 5 corridor in southwest
Washington... and the Upper Hood River Valley... where values from
90 to 95 are possible through Tuesday... with upper 80s to near 90
later in the week. The Coast Range and the Cascade foothill
temperatures will close to those values as well.

Maintaining proper hydration will be very important for any
outdoor activities planned this week. Avoid extra exertion during
the afternoon and early evening hours. Do not leave children or
pets unattended in cars... as this can be fatal. Many fatalities
that have occurred over the years during hot spell episodes have
taken place on area rivers... including several that occurred
during our last hot spell earlier in July. Take extra care while
engaged in recreation on area rivers this week.
