Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Spokane Washington
1108 am PDT Thursday may 22 2008

Synopsis...
an upper low will remain over the Pacific northwest into the
weekend. A series of weather disturbances moving through this upper
low will result in a cool and wet weather pattern. While cooler
temperatures will produce less mountain snow melt...expect periods
of light precipitation into early next week.

Discussion...
rest of today...in the near-term the areas of fog and stratus
across valleys of the northeastern County Warning Area are eroding and
visibilities are improving. RUC soundings support the inversions
mixing out by midday. But skies will not clear out completely
here. A broad low will remain centered across the Great
Basin...retrograding slightly southwest as a jet streak curves
around its southwest side. This puts the inland northwest in an
increasingly easterly flow. A disturbance pivoting around the
northeast side of the low will advance toward the region. This
will lead to a general increase in middle/upper clouds from the east
and...with some lower/mid-level instability...some cumulus and scattered
-shra development through the afternoon. Minor adjustments made to
expand the shower risk slightly into the basin and increase
afternoon clouds. Winds were also adjusted...indicating somewhat
stronger winds coming through the Okanogan Valley. Lastly...a few
tweak were made to temperatures...but in general highs are
expected to be similar to the highs on Wednesday. /Jcote

Aviation...
predominantly VFR conditions expected through 18z Friday.
Morning clouds/patchy fog will give way to a middle and upper level
deck of clouds...with a risk for scattered -shra developing this
afternoon. Isolated MVFR ceilings are possible in showers. The risk will
wane after sunset. Another risk for precipitation will develop from the
east-southeast overnight into Friday afternoon...once again
thickening the cloud decks. /Jcote
