NWS Forecaster Discussion
502 fxus66 kmfr 232138 afdmfr Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Medford or 238 PM PDT Wednesday Jul 23 2008 Discussion...short wave trough brought dry westerly flow aloft into the forecast area today. Current visible imagery showing little or no clouds...but areas of smoke remain across portions of Siskiyou and Modoc counties. A weak ridge of high pressure will build into the area tonight and skies will generally be clear. This will allow temperatures to drop off nicely and lows should be at least a few degrees below normal. Marine stratus not expected to be as widespread as last night...but some is expected to redevelop along the coastal waters especially from Cape Blanco northward and also around Brookings. Any marine intrusion tomorrow will give way to sunshine by middle- late morning along the coast and the remainder of the region will be sunny and dry. Expect temperatures to moderate slightly from today's maximums. Not much change is expected Friday. GFS and European model (ecmwf) showing another trough approaching the coast Friday night into Saturday. Expect much of the energy from this system to remain to our north...so not going to introduce any precipitation into the forecast. It may shave a couple of degrees off maximum temperatures...but again overall not much change. Beyond that...all indications point to a continued west-southwest flow aloft for the second half of the weekend and into early next week. This will keep dry weather in the forecast with temperatures near to slightly above average. && Aviation...VFR conditions expected all locations tonight... however...marine stratus will cause a few hours of LIFR conditions at koth and other localized areas along the coast late tonight and early tomorrow morning. && Mfr watches/warnings/advisories... or...none. California...none. Pacific coastal waters...Small Craft Advisory for winds until 5 am PDT Friday for pzz356-pzz376. Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas until 5 am PDT Friday for pzz356-pzz376. $$ Spilde
